STORY / GAMEPLAY The objective in Galaga is to score as many points as possible by destroying insect-like enemies. You control a space ship situated on the bottom of the screen. At the beginning of each stage, the area looks empty but over time the alien enemies fly in formations and once all of the enemies fill in the screen, they will attack towards your ship in squadrons of one or more ships and may either shoot you or try to crash you. During any stage, you fire your laser cannons and once all enemies are destroyed, you move onto the next.
GRAPHICS / SOUND Ok the graphics are simplistic considering the game's age, but it is a decent game; an original shoot 'em up, with plenty of enemies to shoot at, so the visuals don't really really matter during gameplay! There are no background graphics, except of a space blackness and a few colored dots as stars and this makes Galaga easily playable. The sound is adequate for a 1981 shooter, offering a spot sound effect for every single laser shot and bomb explosion. The music is far from a thrilling musical experience and not the sort of music you'll leave playing aloud while taking a bath (!) | |
